Like many Steamboaters, Mike came here from somewhere else. His somewhere else included ten years as the technical director of a regional theatre, turning set design ideas into fully functional scenic sculptures and mechanized stage magic. He also spent seven years as the director of design for a custom design and fabrication shop, creating one-of-a-kind architectural pieces and iconic international event sculptures.
In his life outside the shop, Mike is a ski instructor, mountain biker, and motorcycle lover. He is partial to double IPAs and makes a mean North Carolina-style barbeque sauce. He and his wife, Ali, moved to Steamboat from New England in 2013. And it’s one of the best things they’ve ever done.
Mike knows that life as a custom craftsman means that every project is a prototype. The first one is the only one, so it’s got to be right.
